Standard wooden pegs are not very effective in these soils due to their narrow width.

Thick wooden pegs, on the other hand, provide better grip in wet ground, such as grass, as they sink deep and anchor into the soil, working much like wooden fence posts.

These thicker pegs can also serve as storm pegs in certain conditions.
