The Streek-GR Dijleland is a 131 km loop that takes you on a 7-day stage through the surprising valleys of the Dyle and its tributaries Voer, Laan, IJse and Senne, and through the adjacent nature reserves.
You start in the historic centre of Leuven, following the Dyle southward through the Grand Béguinage. You pass by Arenberg Castle to the Doode Bemde and Grootbroek, jewels of the nature reserves. With the IJse and the Laan, you wind through the Rodebos and Laanlei nature reserve. You pass through Terlanen and Huldenberg on your way to the Sonian Forest and Tervuren, where history is never far away. The river takes you downstream to Bertem with its typical Mosan Romanesque church and the majestic Bertembos. Through numerous fragments of unique nature, it continues northward and you arrive, accompanied by the Senne, in Mechelen. You will discover the old city centre of Mechelen. Through the bird-rich Mechels Broek and enjoying the vast landscapes along the towpath of the Dyle, you enter Haacht. You walk along the traces of the Second World War: the anti-tank ditch and the old mill of Rotselaar. You climb along sunken lanes to the Kesselberg with a beautiful view over Leuven and its surroundings. The route briefly flirts with the Hageland Heuvelland, but soon you descend again into the Dyle valley. Along the provincial estate of Kessel-Lo, you will once again reach the heart of the city of Leuven.
The starting and finishing points of all stages are easily accessible by public transport.
