A selection of 41 hikes across an exceptional territory in terms of landscapes, fauna and flora, showcased through the magnificent photographs by Gilles Lansard and texts by Catherine Lansard. A book produced in partnership with the Parc naturel régional du massif des Bauges.
The small Bauges massif, nestled in the heart of the Northern Alps, straddling Savoie and Haute-Savoie, is like a gentle green island, lost between the lakes of Annecy, Bourget and the Combe de Savoie. Here, chamois are almost as numerous as the inhabitants, and this little gem has everything to delight nature lovers.
A multitude of trails wind through its forests and alpine meadows, climb its many vertiginous summits ranging between 1,500 and 2,200 metres in altitude, and reveal breathtakingly beautiful panoramas. This small massif has nothing to envy the greatest, thanks to the extraordinary diversity of its landscapes, the richness of its fauna and flora, as well as its architectural heritage. A Parc naturel régional since 1996, it was awarded the UNESCO Geopark designation in 2011 in recognition of its remarkable geological features.
This work, developed in full collaboration with the Parc naturel régional du massif des Bauges, will guide hikers along trails, to summits, through the authorised zones that have just been redefined, as well as into villages to experience the warm welcome and savour quality local produce that reflects this territory. The 41 hikes are presented by difficulty level: from very easy to difficult.
