Alessandro Cariga was born in Bordighera in September 1989. Passionate about the mountains from an early age, he was introduced to alpinism in the early 2000s by his parents. From a young age, he climbed numerous modern and classic routes throughout the Alps and his native mountains, the Maritime Alps. It was only later, through a chance encounter with a local climber, that he discovered sport climbing, to which he has dedicated himself wholeheartedly. At a young age, he accumulated personal achievements and, thanks to his kindness and good humour, forged lasting bonds with the historic community of climbers and boulderers from Liguria, Piedmont and Nice. Driven by the search for and development of new climbing areas and routes, he has equipped hundreds of routes near the border over the years, reaching as far as Corno Stella and Mongioie, creating two very difficult multi-pitch routes, thus completing a journey begun nearly twenty years ago.
Matteo Gambaro was born in Cuneo on 10 November 1974. He took his first steps in climbing in 1992 on the crags of the Cuneo and Finale areas. After only eight months of climbing, he reached grade 8 and entered competition, going on to win the Coppa Italia Lead in 2005 and accumulating numerous international experiences. Together with Elena Chiappa, he created, from 2009 to 2016, the first climbing village (gym, bar and shop) in the province of Cuneo. A national Fasi route setter, he has organised and set routes at numerous national and international competitions. In 2015, he moved to Cisano sul Neva, initiating a true vertical revolution in the Val Pennavaire; he has equipped more than 300 routes ranging from 8a to 9a+, enriching the valley with many high-level routes that were previously missing, and writing the guidebook Pennavalley (Versante Sud, 2022).
