GRP 124 – Tour du Parc National de l’Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse

The route features 14 bivouac zones and shelters, integrated into the forest environment, allowing hikers to take breaks in the heart of nature.

The trail offers a great diversity of landscapes, including forests, historic towns and picturesque villages. It also constitutes a natural space where local flora and fauna thrive in a preserved environment, offering interest to hikers and nature lovers alike.

The Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse region, recognised as a Natural Park, is located between the Sambre and the Meuse, in Wallonia. Its landscapes, while less spectacular than those of the Ardennes or the Fagne-Famenne, display a strong originality thanks to the presence of the Calestienne, characterised by its karstic relief and preserved biodiversity. The low population density has allowed the conservation of vast forest massifs and waterways that have remained relatively unspoiled.

The isolation of the region has contributed to the preservation of traditional heritage elements, such as: village cores, historic town centres, and former forges and mills.

The territory is also marked by an important fortified heritage, including notably the fortresses and citadels of Boussu-en-Fagne, Hauteroche, Walcourt, Chimay, Philippeville, Mariembourg.

Nowhere else, perhaps, will the hiker find such an opportunity to complete a great loop while being able to enjoy breaks in the heart of nature.
