This GR 575/576 trail – Across the Condroz – is the result of combining the GR 575 – Tour du Condroz namurois and the GR 576 – Tour du Condroz liégeois. The topoguides, now out of print, needed to be thoroughly revised before being republished. It seemed preferable to merge them and map out a large 300-kilometre loop through this sometimes overlooked region.
To a large extent, the original routes have been maintained, but some adjustments were of course necessary to connect the trails or to avoid paths that have recently been paved.
Hiking in the Condroz means going from discovery to wonder. Travelling through balanced landscapes where "tiges" and "chavées" follow one another in harmony.
Wandering through unspoiled villages, with their grey limestone or oat-stone houses, beautifully proportioned, solid yet never heavy. Several of them – Mozet, Deigné, Celles, Crupet – are in fact listed among "The Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia". Discovering some of the finest and most charming Romanesque churches in Wallonia, such as those at Celles or Saint-Séverin.
Coming across a château-ferme nestled in a valley, jealously guarding its tranquillity. Admiring others, prestigious or steeped in history, such as those at Spontin, Vervoz or Harzé.
In this essentially rural Condroz, with its often open landscapes, hiking is never difficult. Along a field, between meadows, through a wood, the paths stretch out invitingly, leaving the hiker free to dream or reflect, moving from surprise to encounter: that is the charm of the walk.
