G-Screamer 15cm, from the brand Edelrid, is a small lightweight HMPE sling with an integrated compact energy absorber that can provide a significant safety margin in alpine terrain, big wall, or glacier climbing.
With a length of 15 cm, it clips like a quickdraw sling between two carabiners and can serve as an intermediate anchor in the event of a questionable anchor point and/or large spacing in order to reduce the load on the anchor point in question to a maximum.
In the event of a fall, the energy absorber tears, thereby reducing the force exerted on the anchor point to less than 4 kN.
The total length after complete tearing of the energy absorber is 100 cm.
With a minimal weight of less than 50 g, the G-Screamer weighs barely more than a standard quickdraw sling.
It offers, however, a great safety margin.
Another innovative use of the G-Screamer is to combine it with ascenders to the EN 567 standard to meet the dynamic requirements of the EN 15151-1 standard (braking devices with hand-assisted locking) and thus allow belaying a second with ascenders.
This method considerably reduces the risk of rope failure in the event of a fall by the second climber.
The G-Screamer was developed in collaboration with Simon Gietl.
Main features
- HMPE sling with integrated compact energy absorber – developed with Simon Gietl
- Areas of use: alpine climbing, big wall and glacier climbing with dubious anchor points
- Reduces the dynamic force exerted on the anchor point to less than 4 kN
- Static trigger force of 3 kN
- Weighing less than 50 g, barely heavier than a standard quickdraw sling
- Braking distance 85 cm (total torn length: 100 cm)
- The combination of the G-Screamer and a blocker according to EN 567 standard meets the dynamic requirements of EN 15151-1 standard (braking devices with hand-assisted locking) and can therefore be used for belaying a second climber
- Do not use as a via ferrata lanyard
