Friend 0.4, by the brand Wild Country, is a large-format mechanical cam designed for trad climbers and wide crack enthusiasts looking for reliable, robust and easy-to-place protection.
This new generation of friends retains the following features: 13.75° cam angle, hollow double axle and countersunk lobes for maximum holding power and minimal walking.
The new Flow Cord cable, with its single-piece core-sheath construction, allows smooth, resistance-free extension. The range now includes a size 0.3 with double axle and a size 4 featuring a symmetrical spring-loaded locking mechanism.
The main asset of the Wild Country Friend lies in the combination of a thumb loop and an extendable sling . This design reduces the need for additional quickdraws, minimises rope drag and decreases walking.
Main features
- Thumb loop + extendable cord: the iconic Wild Country Friends feature – combining the ease of use of a thumb loop with the benefits of an extendable sling, up to 20 cm.
- Extendable Flow Cord Technology: a new core-sheath cable without stitching that eliminates rigid stop points, allowing smooth and snag-free extension.
- The outer nylon and UHMWPE sheath resists cuts and abrasion, while the UHMWPE core ensures mechanical strength.
- A red wear indicator in the core signals when it is time to replace the sling.
- Certified 14-year lifespan: resistant to UV, moisture and freeze-thaw cycles (10 years service life + 4 years storage)
- Hollow dual-axle design: minimises weight while maximising cam range for better size overlap.
- Machined and polished cams: Untreated, softer aluminium offers 8 to 10% superior grip compared to anodised surfaces.
