Jacket hoods can be uncomfortable for some people, as they cover the ears.

Wearing a waterproof cap is an excellent solution to maintain optimal peripheral vision and good awareness of the surroundings. 

Additionally, it slides easily under a hood in the event of a torrential downpour.
