For the uninitiated, climbing seems to be a fringe sport. Wrongly so.
Climbing is social, stimulating and exciting. It builds self-confidence, sharpens judgment and develops problem-solving skills. Climbing is both creative thinking and conscious action.
BEL'WALL is not about climbing, but about the heritage of climbing. In particular, the artificial structures in Belgium on which people climb safely. Belgium played a pioneering role in the development of indoor climbing, and the oldest climbing gym in the world is still popular in Brussels.
It is also exceptional and unique that a Belgian king had, as early as 1937, the vision to build a climbing wall in his own garden that, in every respect, stands comparison with the first public stone climbing walls built after 1980.
The current concept of the artificial climbing wall was invented in 1986 by a Brussels climber before conquering the world.
BEL'WAL is an enhanced catalogue that lists all the important climbing walls built in Belgium after 1937. We present them in more or less chronological order, whether they are still in use or not, provided they were built for climbing.
