Ohm II, from the brand Edelrid, is an assisted braking system that wins users over with its ease of use, reliability and longevity.
The OHM attaches to the first intermediate anchor using a carabiner of your choice (carabiner compliant with standard EN 12275 or EN 362).
Thanks to the swivel, the direction of attachment is irrelevant. Moreover, the well-designed locking system prevents any accidental opening. Feeding the rope and unclipping the device during lowering are equally straightforward. There is also no need to adjust the weight ratio. The OHM increases the effective weight of the belayer by 25 kg.
It also brakes in the event of a fall directly at the device level, providing assistance of at least 40 kg. This reduces the risk of unintentional ground collisions and, if the belayer is lighter, prevents them from being pulled upward in an uncontrolled manner.
The construction of the OHM and its high steel content give it a particularly long service life.
In summary, the OHM represents an important and very easy-to-use safety reserve for all climbing teams with a significant weight difference. Designed for countless uses in sport climbing on rock as well as indoors, it is also perfectly suited for rental use.
