The outskirts of Liège are very densely populated, and from there, several regions begin to spread out: the Ardennes to the southeast, the Condroz to the southwest, the Pays de Herve to the northeast, and the Hesbaye to the northwest. Liège is a complex and varied agglomeration in more ways than one: both in terms of landscape and human activity.
At the crossroads of several natural regions — the Pays de Herve, the Ardennes, the Condroz, the Pays de la Vesdre, and the Hesbaye — you can move from one very different landscape to another: heavily wooded to the south, bocage and orchards to the northeast, vast cultivated fields to the northwest. All of this set within an often hilly landscape, shaped by the confluence of several significant rivers with the Meuse, most notably the Ourthe, which itself merges with the Vesdre not far away at Chênée.
Aside from the industrial heartland largely confined along the Meuse, small corners filled with footpaths and walking trails wind their way throughout in abundance.
In sometimes unexpected places, such as through the former slag heaps or within a preserved green haven: the Parc paysager du Ry-Ponet.
Admittedly more densely built-up, there are nevertheless many wonderfully quiet, tree-lined spots here that are absolutely worth discovering!
