But dying from illness, or worse still from exhaustion, she had never truly imagined that. In the USSR, one does not die of exhaustion! If a mountaineer does not have the strength or the ability to complete an ascent, the authorities will not issue their permit.

Shortly after reaching the summit, the eight women were trapped by a storm of unimaginable violence. It would be their last mountain. They all remained there, together and forever, in a white oblivion.
